Principals:
Leon graduated from
the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1971 with
a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Majoring in Accounting.
Leon was able to complete all required courses in three and a half years
while working 32 hours a week. Leon became a Certified Public Accountant
in September of 1977 and founded Leon E. Grass, C.P.A., P.C. in 1980. His
goal was to provide personalized service that is often lost in large, inflexible
firms. Leon is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
and the Arizona Society. He and his wife, Karen, have five children and
reside in Phoenix.
Tim graduated from Siena College in Loudonville, New York in 1977 and
earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, Majoring in Accounting. Following
his graduation, Tim worked for his father in a regional C.P.A. firm in
Plattsburgh, New York. Upon relocating to Phoenix, Tim joined a local C.P.A.
firm where he advanced to Senior Auditor. He became certified in 1981 and
he joined Leon in 1982 to form Grass & Coffey, CPA's, P.C. Tim is a
member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the
Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he has served as
Chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards and the Auditing Standards
Committee.
Tim is a qualified peer reviewer for reviews of CPA firms conducted
under the provisions of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
Peer Review Program. He has spoken at a number of seminars involving audits
of HUD Projects and compliance with provisions of Regulatory Agreements.
In addition, he has authored several articles that have been printed in
various accounting publications. Tim is an active member and past president
of the Phoenix Skyline Kiwanis Club and Cactus Little League. Tim and his
wife, Susan, have three children and live in Scottsdale.
Dave began his accounting career working part time doing tax returns
and bookeeping while attending College, he worked for an old time friend
of his father's " the local accountant everyone liked", and this is where
he was taught the use of the "10 key calculator". He graduated from the
University of Illinois in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
In February of 1977, he became licensed to practice as a Certified Public
Accountant in the State of Illinois. In October, 1982 he became licensed
to practice in the State of Arizona. Dave furthered his education when
he obtained his MBA degree with distinction in 1992 from Keller Graduate
School of Management. Dave joined Leon and Tim in 1992 as a Manager and
then as a Partner in 1998 to form our firm, Grass Coffey & Scharlau,
CPA's.
Dave has over 30 years of experience in auditing, tax and computer information
systems. His main areas of expertise are construction accounting, HUD Cost
and Morgagor Certifications, tax services for closely held corporations
and consulting and support for computerized accounting applications. Dave
is very active on the internet and has installed completed networks and
designed several web sites. Most recently, he has worked with Idea Data
Analysis Software to extract and analyze client information directly from
the computer as a part of a Computer Fraud Audit. He is a member of the
American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona Society
of Certified Public Accountants. Dave and his wife Kathy have two children
and live in Phoenix.
Charles graduated from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona
in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. In 1997, he became
licensed to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Arizona.
Charles’ prior experience includes eight years in public accounting and
four years in private accounting. His areas of expertise include preparation
and planning for partnerships, tax-exempt entities, consolidated returns,
and alternative minimum tax issues. Charles is a member of the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona Society of Certified
Public Accountants. Charles is married and has one daughter.
Managers and Staff:
Bob began his accounting career as an accountant in the restaurant
industry. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration, double majoring in Accounting and Finance
with Honors. Upon graduating, Bob worked as an Auditor for the State of
Arizona. In December of 1998, Bob become licensed to practice as a Certified
Public Accountant in the State of Arizona.
His main areas of expertise are, compliance engagements as they relate
to projects funded by the Industrial Development Authority and HUD compliance
engagements. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants, Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants, and Institute
of Management Accountants. Bob is single and lives in Scottsdale.
Sarah has several years of public accounting experience in the areas of auditing and tax.
She has extensive experience in working with non-profit entities, construction, and those in the manufacturing environment.
Sarah graduated from Midland Lutheran College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majoring in Accounting
and with a minor in Economics.
Sarah is married with two sons and lives in Apache Junction.
LeeAnn has over 15 years of experience in accounting, payroll administration and office management in small and medium size businesses.
She is a QuickBooks Pro Advisor, with experience in Quicken and Peachtree installation and startup for business and home use.
LeeAnn lives in Phoenix.
